I left school feeling I would achieve nothing. I was diagnosed as dyslexic & left School with no qualifications & was told I should work in a shop as I was a friendly & I smiled a lot. I did always enjoy working in a shop btw, but I was led to believe the world was limited to me.
I knew there was more out there but what? I landed in IT 26 years ago; I was OK but just OK at coding I didn’t get a buzz from head down in a screen all day, I was bored. What I did love was speaking with customers, I had an ability to understand their problems & articulate correctly to the ‘Tech People’. People with dyslexia have a way of seeing things differently. Then came along Microsoft Dynamics v 3 - 'point and click configuration' for me in 2005 - Boom I LOVED it. It was fun configuration , being the person that could do it all and I got to sit within customers business and really get to know them.
I believe that everyone should be given as many opportunities as possible to achieve their potential. I was lucky to meet a few like-minded individuals around 2016 & the 'Power Platform Community' was formed – We decided that training should be free, & knowledge shared freely. I ran my first free conference for 100 people in Dublin 2016 - I was terrified no one would show - it sold out in 4 days, then London, then Manchester & to date it has been replicated in 48 countries.
You never know what friends you can make, what genius are just around the corner to help you, I wanted to make it easy to make these new friends & connections, all of which I did for free in my own time. Believe me I have gotten more back than I ever put in.
